Scanning photos - 11-13-2007, 11:52 AM

I have the pics from the cruise that we went on in May. I have the release to be able to make copies of the images and I need to scan them and have 8X10s made for Christmas gifts. What is the best way to get the best image from the "home" scanner? I am scanning an 8X10 to get an 8X10.
TIA

What scanner? I have two HP scanners & I'm not happy with either. I think it's mostly the fault of HP's software. A lot of folks use Vuescan software and like it. It works with virtually all scanners. Epson scanners have a good reputaion among photographers. They also make models that will scan film negatives & positives if you think you might wish to do that someday.

As for the best way, I think scanning without adustments to a TIFF file and "fixing" it in Lightroom or Photoshop is probably best.

Thanks Wayne,
Mine too is an HP. And it just seems wierd. I orginally got it for the negative scnanner capability but for some strange reason that doesn't seem to work porperly lol. I will scan them as Tiffs and see what I can do.
Thanks again.

Thanks Mel,
I was thinking about that. I guess I will have to do it out in the garage with the even lightening.
I will probably do both and see which looks better. Sucks that the originals are soft to begin with but hey my whole family dressed up is an accoplishment in itself lol.
