Mom & daughter - 11-15-2007, 09:49 PM

We donated some certificates for a free portrait to an organization to give as a gift. The lady that won it contacted me and expressed that she does not have 1 photograph of herself that she likes (I feel her pain). She has an adorable little girl and she wants to do a mommy daughter portrait. She is a larger size woman, very apple shape with absolutely no definition from chin and neck, not double chin. Face & neck are same size. She told me that all "the others" put her on the floor and tried to contort her into painful positions. I use to be much heavier myself and know it can be difficult getting down & up from the floor, not to mention embarrassing.
Ok, I'll get to my point now. I plan on using the daughter to conceal part of her and Digital Daddy is planning the lighting but I don't know what to do about slimming the neck. I have some makeup background (cosmetologist) and know I can shade the sides that will help, but I don't know how to approach her with this.
Any other ways to shoot this?
My book is now completed .

Some others here don't like it, but a subtle use of the liquefy tool can be very effective in the right hands. It takes a lot of practice, and I don't have a client that would appreciate me showing a before and after, but here's an after.

one thing to give the neck definition is to take the photo from a higher angle looking down- so they are looking up...

Yes, I agree the liquefy tool is wonderful and works wonders on jowls and the burn tool works magic on double chins. I was just hoping to do as much as possible before ps.

I have considered that but I've watched her when she sings she looks up and stretches her neck alot, and it does narrow the neck there is still no definition.

At some point in time, a realization must be reached that no amount of 'tricks' will be the correct answer. Harst to say, but diet and excercise are the only complete answer, unless you have thousands for plastic surgery. If you are not happy with your appearance, only you have the control to change that. We are not magicians and wave a wand and make someone love their appearance. We can only do some much. rant over!
That all being said, concealing clothing might help, ie a scarf wrapped strategically in a winter wonderland scene. I want to wish you the best of luck on this particular shoot.
