Pano picture - 12-14-2007, 07:33 AM

I am going to be shooting some Christmas lights on the neighborhood houses. This one house sits on a corner and they have tons of lights in the front and around the side. I would love to do like a 4 x 8 photo and do a pano stich. Would that be possible since I would have to move the camera from the front to the side? Or how could I go about it???

Renae, I like shooting panos, but I always shoot from a fixed location (and usually use a tripod). I suspect that any stitching software is going to have some difficulty with moving the camera location. My only suggestion is to use a wide angle lens and shoot from the corner (use a high f-stop for the increased DOF) using plenty of overlap (20-25%) on each shot. The pano shot I have on another thread (http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=63079) is about a 140-160 degree view of the cul-de-sac. The image stitching was done in CS3 (the CS3 photomerge function is much better than it is in CS2).

For comparison here's a pano I did a few nights ago.

D3 Nikkor 85mm three shots stitched with CS3.

VERY important....lock white balance and exposure so thew don't vary. Your camera might be very unpredictable on colored lights and varying luminosities. Lock the settings all tight.
