Is it possible to shoot a self portrait in focus by setting the camera timer on and using Al Servo? Would that work?

Sure. It wouldn't be in focus but you could do it. :)

Yeah, I've tried it that way before and it didn't yield the results I wanted. Instead of auto, switch it to manual and just rig a 'place holder' where you're going to situate yourself and manually focus on that.

I've done the same thing as Paulo. Also, once you have your focus set, turn off the AF on the lens. That way if you use a remote, it won't try to refocus on you.

Oh, I read your question...just being facecious. No, it won't keep focusing on you. Use a place holder...I use a microphone on a stand or stuffed animal.
