Finger print on lens - 01-22-2008, 11:26 AM

I didn't realize it until it was too late but there was a finger print on my lens when I took several family pictures on my last trip. It put a haze on several of the pictures I think I can get rid of it with the burn tool but any suggestions to make this go away or at least better would be GREATLY appreciated!

this is not one of my "keepers" but I thought it would show the problem better than the others. notice how the girl at the bottom is clear and the rest are hazey.

One other note..I do have all of them in RAW if that makes a difference.

Make a brightness and contrast adjustment layer in photoshop. Kick-up the contrast and paint out the areas where it is to bright...

Here's another method.

Duplicate the background layer, set it to soft light blend mode, add a layer mask and paint black (on the mask) below their shoulders. Adjust opacity if needed, I didn't. This didn't seem to be enough, so then I just did a curves adjustment to increase the contrast further, also masking out the bottom half. Took maybe 30 seconds.

With more time and messing with the different blend modes, and/or curves, you can probably get a better result.
