The Moment It Clicks by Joe McNally has gotten a lot of favorable press at Nikon Cafe. Amazon sells it, and you can buy it through TPF.

I'm in the middle of it now. The format is genius.

Each page has an image Joe has taken and in the text he describes the circumstances the photo was taken under, the equipment he used to take it and the problems he had to overcome to get the shot.

It's an easy read and contains a wealth of info.

Joe, If Nikon had allowed him to do this with The Speed Of Light video, it would be more popular; as it is, people see it as merely an expensive ad for Nikon.

I couldn't agree more. Like others, I was sorely dissapointed in that effort.

I wish I would have known TPF had it for sale. I just bought a copy for me and one for a friend. I'm not enjoying it near as much as he is, though. I just got it because it was supposed to be so great. I should have read more about the book, first. I'm only on page 52, though, so maybe I will end up getting more out of it the further along I get.

And you can buy it from yourself, so it won't cost you anything.

I believe TPF just gets a small percentage of the sale since it's sold through Amazon and i'm sure Abel puts it right back into the site.

It was a joke, I am aware of the set up.

I preordered with Barnes and Nobles....I thought the price was kind of steep when I picked it up but last night when I was still reading it at 1:00 am decided it was worth every penny. I agree with the reviews that claim it has one foot in the class room and the overone on the living room coffee table. Worth the buy....I was smarter than I thought!!!

As big as it is, I won't be able to read in bed. When I fall asleep, that one could really hurt! I'm on backorder with Amazon.

The thing is, it disappeared from the shelves almost immediately. Sorry for that. Book publishing is not an exact science, so publishers are always cautious in their numbers for a first run. I can tell you this, though. They are scrambling on the second run, and printing about 25,000 as we speak. It should hit the stores again within a couple of weeks. To all who have commented, blogged, or just sent me an attaboy email, many thanks. The book seems to resonate a bit with folks, and I am very grateful and humbled.

I pre-ordered this from Amazon a while back and then kinda forgot about it till it showed up on my door step a week or so ago. I'm probably about halfway through it so far (concurrently reading a couple of other books, so it's not getting my undivided attention).

The format is nice because it's not something you have to sit down and immerse yourself in and really concentrate on. The anecdotes are interesting, I like reading stuff like that although the type of photography he does isn't quite as interesting to me as it probably is to some others. I wish there was a little more depth on the 'how' part; for most of the topics he doesn't go into too much detail.

Overall I'd say it's interesting, maybe even educational, but not instructional. Which is OK as long as you don't have the wrong expectations before reading it.
