What to do??? - 02-27-2008, 05:43 PM

So I have this great photo of my son being a kid...going down a black diamond, on his second day of skiing EVER, before he even went down a blue . Anyway to make this look better after I crop it??? I'm almost positive the answer is no...but I just want to be able to get it to an 8 x 10...it's his souvenior...one is the original and the other is the crop I already "performed"!!

Print it and see how it turns out. May be good enough for you and it's only $2!

try a little bit looser crop than the first one, and then print it and see. It's not bad -- but you are asking for a lot from that little bitty square of a sensor. On the plus side -- looks like you got the exposure pretty close.

You might try dialing back on the contrast some. You'll lose a bit of the detail, but you might eliminate some of the pixelation -- just a thought.

What to do. - 02-28-2008, 09:06 PM

I wonder if a sharpening program would be helpful. I was thinking about something like NIK Sharpener 2.0. Another solution would be to send it to a pro lab and see if they could run it through a sharpening program. Last but not least are some of the pro labs that can make a poster of this image. I love the image. Good luck.

You need pixel adding software. Labs have it. I think. If I'm wrong, I was never here.

Try up-rezing in GF, crop and then try using Fraser's two stage sharpening process in post with the final sharpening for the output device.

See Fraser's book on sharpening.

You should be able to get a decent print from it. I don't know if this will work but you can resize it down to 8x10 and try a print.
