summary i need advice for taking photos of construction projects mainly targeted for the web, any advice?

long version
howdy!

i am new to photography (got my dSLR in December '07) and because of places like this i am rapidly becoming addicted to it! (not that i'm complaining)

my dad works for a small construction company that does a lot of high-end residential remodeling and commercial construction (mostly office building renovations and some freestanding build-outs). the owner of the company has tried in the past to get photographs taken of work they have done and also before/during/after shots, but has not really been pleased with the results.

since i am in the process of re-designing their website for them and they know that i am getting into photography they asked if i would be interested in trying to help them out with some photos. i couldn't really find any great information regarding how i should go about doing this type of work, so any advice is appreciated.

i am working with a Nikon d40x and the kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6) and a 55-200mm f/4-5.6 lens, one sb-600 and stand/umbrella for it. i was thinking that because at least at the start the target would be the web i could probably get away with using the kit lens as it is fairly wide, but that could just be my ignorance speaking. i also plan on getting my hands on some more lighting equipment in the near future which will hopefully provide me a little creative freedom.

thanks for reading
