what would you do?? - 03-20-2008, 10:26 PM

What would you do with the photo?? This is the first of several shots I am hoping to make a panarama of...first one, so we'll see. The advantage is, this is the first time I've shot something like this...and it's a friends house...I asked him not to tear it down, until I have the shots I need. So I figure I will need to redo some photos..

This photo will be the last one on the right....so what should I do with the garage door??? I plan on cloning out the garage door openers and such...any other suggestions????

Maybe you could come in tighter on this village. Looks like someone had a lot of time on their hands.

Hey, renae, that's one intense layout!

Anyway, to get this into a panoramic, start as close to the door as possible and frame the image so that you minimize the door, but regardless you can crop it off later. Shoot flat or horizontal and not down. Try to straighten the tilted buildings if possible before you shoot.

Use a tripod and take the series at the same height and distance for each shot. Then crop each shot to remove as much of the foreground and wall as possible. Make sure the ends overlap a bit so the stitching software can do it's job.

A single panoramic will be great, but do be sure to catch some close up shots of some of the details. That's where most of the work is usually.

Probably not great for panoramic, but have you thought of getting some shots with a lensbaby? It seems to me that the crazy DOF makes real scenes look miniature, and may lend some nice affect to a shot like this.

Thanks for the help...

Believe it or not that is only about 1/5 of the layout...maybe not even that much...it's huge!! I was shooting at that level so we could see the whole thing in the pan. most of the ones we liked were the close ups...he had alot of humor in with his stuff!! Ken I will try some more angles next time and see if I can go lower and still get the pana.

Here's a couple other shots..one is the lady in the VW hits a cow and the other was a shot from the "helicopter"

these are great!

"Helicopter" shots are fine for general documentation of the layout. You will need a mix of them with the closeups to complete the package.

It will be impossible to have too many shots!

and a PM sent....

in photoshop
cut out model
paste on new layer
create background using gradient fill (sample the original blue for color)
use burn/dodge alternately to create depth
add grain
done

Better than Photoshop, enlist 25 people to pick up the whole thing and take it outside, preferably under a large shade tree!

Can't wait to see what you come up with with the panorama. With so many fun details, it's a shame you can't capture them and the whole thing at the same time. The fact is, you won't: you'll have to have detail shots like you posted here to really give a sense of the work and humor involved.

With the cow, though, I bet in "real" life it would have hit the front of that Beetle, gotten thrown up in the air and landed right on the driver. Beef, it's what's for dinner ...

Great shots, Renea, and the suggestions are good. I would also try to level out the first one. Looks a little lopsided to me.
