Newb here: bluebonnet/kid pic question - 03-26-2008, 05:01 PM

Hi there, I was referred to this site by Jason (This site is awesme btw!)

I am a total newb when it comes to anything but P&S dig cameras. I have a D80 w/ Nikon 18-70 lens and SB-600 flash. Just took a leisure learning "intro to photography" class and learned enough to get me off of AUTO and into M.

Basically, I'm looking for tips to take some really great bluebonnet w/ kid in them pics this year. I do it every year w/ my P&S, but now my camera has really upped the ante. HA HA

I would love to see some of everyone else's BB pics also as I seem to learn a lot from just looking at other pictures. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Best advise, shoot them early in the morning, late in the afternoon or on a cloudy day.

practice before going out to the bluebonnets, to be comfortable with your camera in the time of day you are ashooting.

one thing you could do is shoot into the sun,a nd have a piece of foam board being held up by someone else, bouncing light back into the face of your subjects.
this way you dont have to worry about squinty eyes, but you still get enough light into their faces.
