Shooting at Dallas Auto Show - 04-02-2008, 11:14 AM

I'm heading to the Auto Show here tonight and not sure at all how to shoot there. The one in Houston was pretty low light. I'm guessing I will need to use flash but all I have is the onboard. Any tips before I head out?

BTW I'll be the kid in short hair with a lime green dinosaur on his shirt and an orange lowepro bag if anyone wants to say hi!

Take a flash and a defuser. Last year the Ford exhibition brought in dark blue and dark gray cars and was terrible to photograph. Everyone else brought either silver or red cars which were OK. I suggest an external flash with a defuser. I will be there Saturday evening.

If it's all you've got as opposed to a faster lens, I guess you're stuck with flash. The car surfaces are so reflective, though, that it's an acquired skill to get it right.

When I went to the Fort Worth show this year (smaller but still cool), I just had my 50 f/1.8 on my XTi and didn't use flash at all. Got some pretty good pics.
