Sun/Shade exposure - 04-14-2008, 06:02 AM

I had some problems this weekend getting good exposed shots...how do you meter when you have a mix of sun and shade??? And I am also throwing this out there but I think I figured it out...if you have a sunny background but the people are in the shade...should i be using my flash to highlight them or is there another way??? Thanks

There is no good way to meter when you have a mix of sun and shade. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Really the only way to overcome the sun/shade is to meter for the sun and use a strong strong flash to overcome the shadows well enough to make a good exposure.

It can work beautifully if done the right way.
