This is a cross between what to use and where to use it. So, I'm placing it in the general Photo Tips area.
Mr. Adams in his usual pose atop a vehicle.
The rest of the story... Ansel Adams & Yosemite
Enjoy!

New. Or reasonable substitutes new. 8x10 cameras, film holders, lenses, film & suitable tripods are being made as I type. Larger formats are also available new or gently used from many sources. ebay not required.

Large Format is undergoing a revival as are older chemisteries. It requires you to make a picture not just take one.

I already find photography a little intimidating. Thank goodness things are so much more accessible now. Digital memory lets me take all the shots I want without the hassle of developing and printing them out on paper. I guess I am lazy, but I have better things to do than process film. | | | |

| But wait, I thought the camera didn't matter, it's all the person behind the camera?
I don't think you need large format in order to "slow down and make pictures", you can do that with any equipment if you want.

"if you want" being the important part.

Paraphrasing Tom Clancey: If you don't print it it never happened.
You don't have a photograph until it's printed.
Before printing, a digital image is just a zillion 0s & 1s.

And even though my approach to shooting landscapes forces me to slow down while composing and exposing, I still have to work at forcing myself to slow down while looking/seeing. To me that's the hard part, and no camera gear makes it any easier.
