New. Or reasonable substitutes new. 8x10 cameras, film holders, lenses, film & suitable tripods are being made as I type. Larger formats are also available new or gently used from many sources. ebay not required.

I already find photography a little intimidating. Thank goodness things are so much more accessible now. Digital memory lets me take all the shots I want without the hassle of developing and printing them out on paper. I guess I am lazy, but I have better things to do than process film.

But wait, I thought the camera didn't matter, it's all the person behind the camera?

I don't think you need large format in order to "slow down and make pictures", you can do that with any equipment if you want.

The print is why one does photography. Ansel Adams was not as much a master of photography as a master of the print.

You don't have a photograph until it's printed.

Before printing, a digital image is just a zillion 0s & 1s.

That's certainly true. And even though my approach to shooting landscapes forces me to slow down while composing and exposing, I still have to work at forcing myself to slow down while looking/seeing. To me that's the hard part, and no camera gear makes it any easier.
