I confess Mitch Alland is one of my current favorite working street photographers. He can make you smell and hear Bangkok's streets.

Give this a read.

I have to say I like your title to the link, John. There's some discussion on the blog you link to about whether the initial write up was worded too authoritatively, and your take on it ("an approach...") certainly is quite gentle.

yes his approach is very nice, i am a fan of street photography and particulary enjoy trying it out in different ways

one thing I have noticed while photographing in america is that sometimes people can get suspicious of photography in public ...

in asian countries - such as china or india - people do not have the same attitude, they tend not to really care so much if someone is photographing and sometimes are very, very proud to have their photo taken or camera pointed in their direction

of course this is not to say anything that street photos in america is wrong or hard, its just a difference in the culture ...

Thanks for the link, Stovall. The discussion of composition versus emotional content in street photos following the article is very interesting as well. So folks are starting to figure out how to do street with digital now. I can't really see holding the camera out in front of me to compose through the lcd as very effective, as some mentioned here. I think that method would certainly draw more attention than a quick up to the eye and shoot. I prefer a waist level finder for street, as people these days don't know about those anymore.
