Question Cap & Gown Graduation photos? - 06-01-2008, 09:26 AM

Okay, I did my sister's senior photos and now she is wanting some cap & gown photos (now that she finally has the cap & gown). My thing is, I dont have the studio set up for graduation photos so I was going to do "on location" shots but I am not sure where the best place or the best backdrops would be for cap & gown photos. I have a brick wall in mind, maybe her high school, a water found, but how many poses can you do with a cap & gown?
any examples would be great!

Lots of places to shoot such shots. Let you mind wander. A few to get you started. School Playgrouds. entrace doors, old school Buildings, Parks, and as you said brick walls. Maybe the corner of a wall. As in turning a corner of life. Go get em.

That photo request makes me think of the wedding gown shots I see photographers take.... so my first thought would be to take some shots of the cap/gown in the "natural" environment--- meaning, haning from a drapery rod and some 'getting ready' type shots of your sister on graduation day too... maybe that would help transition the photos and complete the story: senior photos, stills of the cap/gown, getting ready type shots of your sister with the cap/gown, and then the commencement photos and party photos... would make for a nice book possibility for her too....

Doing it at her school isn't a bad idea.

Get one of her throwing the cap up in the air, too.

Really, ask yourself how many photos does she really need? Five or six solid shots with good poses would do it, probably.

thanks she told me yesterday she wants to do this today at noon (harsh shadows) but oh well. ya and i can't be out in heat too long...i remember all too well how it felt to be in the cap and gown in the middle of june texas heat

i called the school, they aren't too fond of someone roaming indoors with a camera wile school is in session nor doing it outdoors as it may cause a distraction (plus they have a lot of construction going on....Lewisville High School)

Hi Teresa,
Have you thought about using the Dallas Arboretum?
They have plenty of beautiful landscapes and backdrops to shoot with.
