Thanks for the article.
I remember as a Kid learning how to fire a weapon (rifle) and being given all these hints to help me hit the bull's eye. These hints were further ingrained in the Armed Forces.

It's always good to review them.

I've found what they call the "machine gun hold" to be the most effective way to shoot hand-held with a telephoto such as the 70-200.

excellent stuff! I thought it was going to be another plug for the rope-pod. Or tree-hugging pod. Or leg-around-the-fence-post pod.

As Angelo mentioned, most of these are modifications of stuff you learned in target practice. Since Dad was an avid hunter, hours were spent at the range practicing such techniques.

The one comment I would make is that, instead of exhaling then shooting, press the shutter while exhaling. The process of slowly exhaling actually adds to your stability, whereas if you have completed the exhale process, certain primal needs start kicking in subliminally.

Obviously if you have your arms too closely intertwined with your chest, you might need further changes in your breathing technique.....like diaphramatic instead of heaving the chest. (too technical, sorry. The choir folks know what I mean.)

yes, great article. I'll shutup now...

Almost all those tips I learned 25 years ago. I can tell you from watching other photog's that their pictures would be so much better if they adhered to tip #1. It is something I have used for so long that it is automatic now. Don't ever chicken wing it... LOL ... Watch people to photo's and you will see almost all of them chicken winging it... Just watch and see for you self.. Tip #1 is always broken.
