I have been a little hesitant to post any of my pictures due to the fact that I am still pretty new to the photography field and have a LOT to learn. The following pictures have not been digitally altered. I am using a FujiFilm S5000 camera. Please feel free to offer your suggestions.

First of all, ALL of us have a LOT to learn and that's one of the reasons for the forum, so we can learn from each other.....

Second,
Not sure about the first one....there's something about it, but just can't place my finger on ity...
I would try and lighten #2 a bit, I like the detail but would like to see it a bit brighter
#3 is great to me, I like the DOF and the detail in the bird's chest feathers
Good crop on the parrot and again good DOF but it looks a little blue (could be my monitor though)
Good close up on the flowers

Hope this helps.....

First of all - great shots overall - and take my opinions with a grain of shot since I shoot people... :)

on the squirrel: I second the fact that there is something about it that seems lacking - but it is a nice shot. Maybe if you had tilted the camera to the left and kept his tail in the bottom right corner the lines would be more appealing.

on the penguin: I like everything about this - maybe it is too dark, but I still really like the composition.

on the red-chested bird (yeah, sorry I don't know real names ): very nice saturation - maybe place him a bit more off center to make it more interesting.

on the parrot: again, good color saturation - the pipe in the bottom right hand corner is distracting as well as the blue feathers above his head, but otherwise great sharp headshot and nice composition.

on the flowers: not a huge fan of flower shots, but again, nice color saturation.

Thanks for sharing - and again, welcome to the group!!

All of us are learning all of the time

I agree about the squirrel that maybe a slightly different angle would be more complimentary. These guys are tough to capture when scampering up a tree, though.
I like the pengin shot! It's almost comical with him pointing his beak down. Looks good.
I agree with Holly on the red-chested bird. And where did you see this guy? Interesting.
The parrot is a good close-up. He looks very slightly blue to me also, but my monitor is not calibrated so no one should take that too seriously.
I like the orchid (right?), pretty colors.

Some nice pictures there.
I'd agree with the comments on the 1st one - perhaps a tighter crop?
Also one comment on all of them is that they do need some processing to push up the contrast and make the colors and tones snap a bit more (esp the penguin and the parrot - colors are probably more accurate but look a bit washed out to me).

I always liked (and still do like) the idea of getting a great picture straight out of the camera but I'm now resigned to the fact that half the trick of getting a nice end result is the post processing.

I wonder what the penguin is looking at?

Thumbs up First of all,Good Photos - 08-30-2005, 06:24 PM

I enjoyed looking at your photos,I think they are all nice photos.I noticed that your photos are
not digitially improved or altered.Did you refrain from a usual work flow on purpose to get opinions on just the photo content,or are you unfamiliar with software such as photoshop or elements and thus asking questions about those kind of issues?
