Always show your best stuff. Get very critical of yourself and find out why the photos, from the best photographers in your area of interest, work so well. If you don't know why they work, find someone to tell you.
Yeah, your photos initially will not reflect the best you will eventually do, but still show the best you think. Over time, you will look back and wonder how you ever showed anyone, but that means you are learning and progressing into the genre you were geared for.
Again, get critical with yourself and when people do or do not show interest in a photo you think is great, ask them "why?", or ask yourself. Do not settle for mediocrity.
IMO, show nothing if you are not sure. Some argue otherwise, but again, that is their opinion.
