Image on screen and Prints dont match. - 08-26-2008, 12:32 PM

Hey guys, I have used a spider (by colorvision) to calibrate my monitor but I cant seem to get my images on screen and how they look when I print them (canon i9900) to look even close. I always end up having to pull back my saturation to get them to print right. Is there fix for this? I was under the impression that having clabrated my monitor with this exspensive spider would fix these issues. Anyone else have this issue?

realize that you must calibrate both the printer and screen to match.

Ken I thought I did that. Am I doing something wrong. How should I go about calibrating the printer?

You don't say what type of spyder you have. I'm not sure which if any have the capability to calibrate a printer. The software that came with the calibrator should have instructions for calibrating the printer if it can do that function. You may be able to search for a profile that corresponds to the printer/ink/paper combination you are using. That might get you closer to the results you are looking for if your calibrator can't do your printer.

You don't 'calibrate' a printer you use the correct ICC profile for the paper, ink and printer you are using.

If you want great color you must have great color management and this is the definiative book on the subject.

I had the same problem even after calibration and using the correct settings on my printer so I gave up and send them out. After my time, ink and paper it cost about the same to send them out and if I am not happy they will reprint them.

I do what John does. I use the ICC profile for the paper and print from photoshop. The paper profiles are downloadable at the paper manufacturer's web site. I don't know what the Canon driver is like, but the Epson one has a place to turn off color management by the printer. You select this and let photoshop manage colors. You can use "proof set up" under "view" in photoshop to see how colors will look on various papers. "Rendering Intent" usually only has a minor effect on the colors, but you can also see how these change the colors in proof set up. For a while I always used "perceptual", but later found that I sometime like "absolute colormetric" or "saturation" better.
