Haze - 09-28-2008, 07:59 PM

I am sorry if this is previously discussed or not, but I had a problem with haze. Actually, it wasn't me, but my mom, she was on top of the Empire State building taking photos, and from what I can tell, the haze is ridiculous. She used a UV filter, and for all I know, the haze could have been particularly horrible that day, but even in my past experience, it never really feels like a UV filter does much for haze (although Ive never taken comparison shots). Are we missing something? Is there something other than a UV filter that can reduce glare? Does the principle of "you get what you pay for" apply here? How could more expensive UV filters remove haze better?

As always, thank you for your amazing answers.

A normal UV filter has very little haze correction, for better results move to a 1A "sky" filter (it has a slight pink tint). It has a bit more umph than a simple UV. I used to use one instead of a UV simply because haze is a way of life here.....

a 2B filter is like a mas macho haze filter, but iirc it is more normally used in B+W work. it has a yellow tint.
