Yep, that's why my old Yashicamat was the best for discreet photos. With a waist level finder, it just looked to others like I was fiddling with controls of the camera, but I was actually taking a pic. I got a waist level finder for my Olympus OM's, but the view was a bit small to compose with at waist level. It was just the same size as the viewfinder window, so it was too far away. But the Olympus finder could also rotate, so I could take 90 degree shots sideways. The camera was pointed at the person, but I was looking 90 degrees to the side. I think they still suspected something.
