why does my flash looks purple

This is a discussion on why does my flash looks purple within the Photo Tips forums, part of the Photography Information category; i'm just wondering. does it have to do with my auto white balance? examples: http://www.garret.us/~icdapoakr/colt%20happy.jpg http://www.garret.us/~icdapoakr/jarv...20(Medium).jpg...

I'm pretty sure it has to do with white balance. If you shoot raw, change the white balance. I made the mistake once of white balancing without the flash and then forgot to change it when I was using the flash. The photos came out with a blueish hue. Also check the color of the walls thatthe flash is bouncing off.

i'm not cool enough to shoot in raw... :(

i really like putting it to tungsten when i'm outside. love the blue hue effect

i'll remember to check with the white balance from now on

Having your camea on Auto White Balance (AWB) it will set itself to the ambient light color. If the room had flourescent lights, the camera set the AWB to be like having an FL-D magenta filter on the front of your lens, compensating for the green hue given of by flourescent lights. The flash is set for daylight balance, meaning it's the same color temperature as the sun. So, Having the camera compensate for the flourescents will make the light from the flash look magenta. Maybe. I may just be quessing wildly.
