Redeye question - 12-03-2008, 10:11 PM

I recently took some photos of my new nephew but they turned out to have major redeye problems that I couldn't get rid of using Photoshop Elements' Auto Red Eye Fix feature. I unfortunately took them without adjusting my flash accordingly. Does anyone know if there is anything else I can do to fix those photos? They are otherwise good and I'd like to salvage them if I can.

Thanks.

zoom in close and clone non-red parts of the eye over the red, which should be limited to the pupil (black part in center) but probably 'bled" over the iris. Then replace the pupil with a "black" circle. this is a VERY crude explanation but you'll get the idea.

Jennifer: The best way to avoid red eye is to use an accessory flash if your camera will accept such.

It raises the flash enough to change the angle between your lens and the flash, eliminating most red eye.

What Carl said.

Back in the Land Before Time, cameras were big enough and flashes were far enough away from the lens that "red eye" didn't exist. It's a good thing too, because we didn't have software to fix it.
