So I'm suppose to do a self-portrait for class and I'm fresh out of ideas. Basically, its a self portrait with something out of context..! thats it! Even though it seems like a simple idea, I'm just experience some Photographers Block! ugh!

any and all suggestions would be great.. lets hear em!

How about a shot of you doing your homework??? Would that be out of context?

dressed in ladies clothing?
In the dessert wearing a snowsuit?
talking on a rotary dial phone?
all of the above

Do one of those photomerge shots with several replicas of yourself. With one exception put one of your replicas on the wall or on the ceiling. I think it would be cool.

haha adam my gf did her whole BOW called out of context last semester.

it was an animal rights deal with the people and animals mixed. such as a scientist with a rabbit head doing experiments on a human.

i took some portraits myself while we had our heads some might remember me posting some up

how about a poker game with 4-5 players around the table, all of them you!
with: different hats, shirts, expressions, drinks, etc.
stacking layers in PS is easy and fun.
just a thought.

Adam, how about sitting outside on a lawn chair wearing a bathing suit, holding a drink with an umbrella in it, with sunglasses on under a full moon? Try to sit still for a long timed exposure. Be sure to have a clock visible showing the time as 10:00 PM....hmmm, an analog clock wouldn't work and a digital would get blown out with a long expsure...there has to be a way to show that it's a moonlight shot.

So...I like the reflection idea a lot. Here's a "twist" on it. Set the camera up for one of those front/back photos in front of a mirror, except put all your clothes on backward (front on the back) and sunglasses on the back of your head. You'll get a "backward" reflection that is right side - kind of. It's a reflection AND severely out of context at the same time!

Would obvioulsy work best with a real shirt and such. You'd probably need help with the clothes!

yeah, I think you are right. Maybe one of "you" could be playing a different game than poker. maybe the idea doesn't fully work for the assignment.

some neat ideas here. I like the backwards clothes and mirrors one.

Jerry's Idea on the Poker Table - 09-25-2005, 09:07 AM

I had never tried something like Jerry's idea on the poker table for a SP, so here are some I tried last night. It was certainly easy, though I lack a very "pokerish" atmosphere here at the house. Thanks for the idea Jerry, it was fun thinking through the ways to stack the layers, what reflections to worry about, etc.

Feedback always welcome as usual.
