Portrait Configuration for People - 09-27-2005, 05:40 PM

How funny to think of people as being configured. Anyway....
I am supposed to take a family portrait of two families together outside at an old church toward the middle of next month. My question is this...all four adults are rather large people. They want to kind of match and asked for suggestions on what to wear. I told them perhaps blue jeans and maybe various complimentary fall colored shirts (tan, rust, beige family of colors). Does that sound good?
Next I would like to know how I should place this group. Here is a photo of the place I do the pictures...

It's an OLD OLD picture of my girls and I hope my photography is better since then but you get the idea of the place.

How should I position the people if they will fit in this spot. I'm thinking the two guys on the outside of the steps, the women maybe sitting down and the kids around them...not sure how many kids but I think four or five.

Any ideas you guys have would really be appreciated.

Thanks
DJ

Don't laugh at what I'm posting here. Although the clothing may not be up to date, look at the quality of the poses and lighting that Joe Zeltsman created. At least use some of the ideas to make your group shot work.

But if you wait long enough, it may come back into style.

Very good site. It's been bookmarked for future reference!

Can't help with the posing, but I would suggest jeans and white shirts. With that dark background I'm afraid darker colored shirts might blend in too much.
