Frustration! Tonight, I tried somethng I have been waiting to try for a year or more: Taking photos of aircraft very low on final, with all lights displayed. Light overcast/fog, so the outline of the plane is ghostly, with the lights providing major definition. I saw that a year ago, but didn't have my camera. (Aint that always the way?)
They come right over my house, soooo...with my camera at 1600 ISO, aperture priority, lens at f/2.2, manual focus at infinity...it didn't work! I was 'waaaay beyond the capabilities of my camera, and maybe most cameras.
The sodium vapor lights in the 'hood lit up the bottom of the overcast with an orangey glow, the shutter speed was too slow to provide anything but a blur of lights, and a tripod wouldn't have helped...at least not very much.
Does anyone know of a way to accomplish what I wish, other than learning how to paint? Maybe I should follow my own advice: " If there isn't enough light, leave the camera in the bag till there is!"
Suggestions, please!
