First on my list is LensWork. Then:

Digital Pro Photo

Black and White Magazine

Aperture

Avoid like an STD anything with "Popular" in the title.

I'm currently enjoying Rangefinder. It's a freebie for US addresses.

I have found I prefer the magazines based out of the UK. They're ungodly expensive, but don't seem to be as ad based as the US magazines.

I pick up SLR User for sure, and whatever else looks interesting when I'm at Barnes and Noble.

That's one reason they're so expensive. Low on the ads.

Good point. But I'd rather pay the extra and not be subjected to the latest and greatest on every other page. Just my choice, though.

You could subscribe to View Camera Magazine. Be advised: doing so could cause major changes in your photography.

+15 for Lenswork .. even if you don't do fine art photography, it is very inspiring creatively.

The only others I read currently are Rangefinder (WPPI-centric), Professional Photographer (PPA-centric), and Studio Photography (their own advertiser-centric .. but TriCoast had a big feature in it last month!)

It's not a magazine but for equipment reviews and insight into the art of photography, Reid Reviews by Sean Reid. It's pay to view website and no ad's.

I'm often inspired (as many others have been) by National Geographic. Even old issues can have some stunning work in there.

so true. and, I've been surprised at how technically poor some of the photographs are as well. Most are just stunning, but now and then there are some great captures, but not great photographs. Makes me think there would be hope for me.

+1 on the National Geographic for inspiration. That is where I got the idea to build my own light box. One issue had the photographer set up a home made light box in the back of his Range Rover. PVC pipe and what looked to be white bed linen.

They have monthly contests, too.

Well how about that. I have subscriptions to Rangefinder, Black & White, and Aperture (for maybe 30 years), but somehow I've never run across this "Lenswork" title. I'll have to check it out.
