Cd - 04-23-2009, 12:21 AM

Since I am new at this to start my own business. Now I have two new clients that I will do photo session. They both wanted a CD so I was wonder if I should put in JPEG or RAW? I noticed that LR 2.0 do have "burn cd" and wonder if that is what I need to use? If so, how that works? Also, how I do tell my clients to have me credit if they wanted to post on website and such? Should I write up a "contract" to have me credit on whatever they are going to do with it? Thanks!

The average client won't be able to do anything with a RAW file, so convert them to JPEG. You should always have a written contract with any client (I know from experience), and you can add a clause in there about giving you credit on their Web pages but that's hard to enforce. Some photogs add a watermark and size a batch of them for Web use instead.

Well my client wanted a CD so they can print out themselves from store or online so that's why I am asking and what size should I put on for JPEG for them to able to print for themselves? Thanks for letting me know! I will be sure to write up a contract with my client to be sure to have me as credit.

If you want credit do it yourself or you will not get credit. You need to resize for the web with longest side of photo at 750 pixels and 72 dpi and put your info on each. When you burn the cd make one folder "For Printing" and one folder "For Web". The printing Folder should contain full size jpg's.

LR 2.0 when you do export gives you several options for format. I usually do full JPEG 100% sRGB without reducing the images in size.

If they try to take the cd somewhere to print they will need a copyright release form from you. There may be a standard form somewhere on the forum.
