Looks like a flash sync issue. What was your shutter speed?

The XTi has a 1/200 flash sync speed, meaning that unless you're shooting with a Canon E-TTL II flash on high-speed sync mode, you will have to keep your shutter speed at or slower than 1/200th of a second to properly expose the entire image.
