John, thanks for posting this reminder, short and so true.

A corollary of this is that just because the technical aspects have become second nature doesn't follow that one has become a good photographer, only that one has acquired only technical skills... it's a long and hard road and being able to use the equipment is a necessary, but not sufficient, condition to create worthwhile images. And it's not static, as modern technology constantly remind us - technical skills are a moving target.

But if it was easy it wouldn't be so exciting and fulfilling when it all comes together!

i was sick after i upgraded cameras so i laid around the house for two days with the camera in my hand learning every knob, button and dial. when i finallly got out shooting, it was like taking an old freind on a walk. thanks for sharing that
