"Shattered Dreams" Program at Brazos High School - 05-21-2009, 10:07 PM

Here are a few shots from the Shattered Dreams Program that is put on at high schools to teach the dangers of drinking and driving. Everyone did a fantastic job to make this look as real as it could be.

Was it not for "death" being present in the first picture and the guy wearing the blue medical vest in the third picture not wearing any BSI (Body Substance Isolation, aka gloves) I would have bought that it was on an actual MVC (Motor Vehicle Collision) scene.

I have served as a volunteer Firefighter/ECA in my community for 2.5 years and unfortunately have seen some bad stuff.

Good photos nevertheless.

I've seen a couple of these; this one looks more realistic simply because it appears to be on a road. Typically I've seen them on high school property. Great shots of the event.

Been close to a few real wrecks myself, not as close as Greg probably has been. My first newspaper job was in a town with a major interstate and several back-country roads. The interstate wrecks were often bad, but it was the smaller highways and curvy country roads that caused the most trouble. I remember one in particular with a drunk driver on a gravel county road that ended in a T, where the driver was thrown from the burning vehicle and landed in a tree, where paramedics found his body.

I shot my second one of these events at Dickinson High School a few weeks ago...they put theirs on the street in front of their school, as well. I may post some images. It was amazing to see some of the student's reactions...

Thanks for posting these. They did this a month or so ago at my daughter's high school (Klein) and I think it had a real effect on the kids. I know it was very emotional for everyone involved. Parents of the "dead" child actually had to go to the ME's office to identify their child; the "drunk" driver had to spend the night in jail. So many of these simulations are done once the accident scene is cleaned up. This one went for the entire week. If it saves even one kid, I think it's worth it...

I'm a teacher, and was part of Shattered Dreams several years ago at Nacogdoches High School. The program is AWESOME for the entire student body. You can read more about it here.

Awesome shots by the way.

I give you props for this! Its really really good! It made me feel like i was there. The emotion on their faces is what got me thinking it was actually real. I wish our school would do that. I especially like the first picture with the grim weeper, excellent. Even seeing these photos i get the idea they were trying to give. Drunk driving is no joke and many people never think what getting behind the wheel drunk can actually do. good job(:

Thanks for the compliment! There should be another one this year, I would think. Just not sure which schools will be doing it.
