They look pretty good.. there are a couple of online places that are always looking for photos of fire fighters battling fires of all kinds.

You got in nice and close, did they give you much grief?

Nice shots...

But never forget that a safe looking grass fire can turn deadly. With grass like I see in shot 3 it doesn't take much wind to send that fire running pretty fast.

Maybe next time you can ride with a firefighter and get closer to the action. Some fire fighters are ok with it as long they are with you. Just a suggestion.

My future brother in Law is a volunteer with Elsa Fire dept. He's always telling me I can go with them.

So I'm sure you can just ask nicely. A lot fire depts also like pics of them fighting action because they have presentations at times with surrounding units. And its good documentation for them.

Riding with fire dept - 11-07-2005, 06:44 AM

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind ... the fire dept. is all volunteer (except Chief I think) ... anyway, they gave me a 911 pager, so I've actually gotten to a couple of 911 calls before the fire dept. The reason, is I can go straight there, they have to go to the fire station, dress up, and drive out emergency vehicles. They get there pretty quickly. Next time I think I might go to the fire station and shoot the "getting ready" to go ...

Dan - Thanks for the warnings... I always try to think about my escape routes and not put myself in a bad situation, but appreciate the concern for my safety reminders are always good in these situations.

I've been a volunteer for almost 12 years and have seen the fire do some weird things. We are trained to stay in the burnt area because the fire can take off and run faster than a human can. Reminders are always important because even we can get caught up in the moment and forget and get in a bad spot.

I'm my dept's photographer but I usually miss the good shots because I am usually busy when I first get on scene working pumps when it is a structure fire or putting wet stuff on the red stuff when it is a grass fire. Hope I can get some good shots sometime because my service will soon come to an end. My land sold and will be moving to Vidor (hopefully).
And I doubt I will get active on a another dept.
