Family riding bike 7000 miles across America - 11-24-2009, 10:15 AM

Yesterday, I got a call from my editor at the paper about an interesting photo op. Apparently, on a back road about 25 miles north of town, there was a 5-seater bike being ridden. That was all the info I had. Shortly after meeting up with the bikers, though, I knew we had a feature story: 5 people, 1 bike, riding 7,000 miles across country from Kentucky to Alaska. Check it out:

This has got to be Dad's idea. Nobody else would come up with such a crazy idea and then talk the family in to it.

Nice captures. Thanks for sharing.

Afterthought:

Dad " Hey look at this, a five seater bike for sale on Ebay !"
Mom " What in the world would we do with a 5 seater bike ?"
Dad " Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:) "

Schmegga- check out the story in today's ARN. They are heading to San Diego thru the "warm belt." They'll be house-sitting for someone in San Diego until the Spring, when they will set out for Alaska. They hope to make it by August of next year. They were a really cool family, with a really neat story.

Check out their personal site pedouin.org for more info on their story.

Great images and great story. The only question I have is whether or not they allow you to use a sepia toned image or warm black and white. I don't think that is usually allowed in photojournalism, but it works really well here. Def. one of my fav. threads in this section. I would have liked to have seen some close ups of the people and their emotions, but you still did well. First shot is my fave.

Leslie-
The images I posted here were just something I played around with. I don't do any toning of my photos for the newspaper; I leave that to their in-house designers, even any b/w conversions. Looking back, not sure why I made these sepia...they look rather weird now :)
