I work near there so I figure I'll go get some pics, for once, of something other than wildlife. traffic was a mess and had to shoot out window with S90Besides not being great shots quality wise what would someone really into this type stuff do and how does someone offer for use in local papers. Any input or suggestions welcome.

well, I imagine the first thing you could do for better pics is to actually get out of your car.... just need to stay out of the way of the fire personnel and LEO's and you can shoot away.

Thanks but no advise needed on photo quality issues. I am aware that shooting out the window of a moving vehicle are less than optimum conditions but were necessary in this particular situation. My questions were on other matters as posted.

If you wanted to submit it to the local papers, you could either contact the editor or photo editor (if there is one) to see if they would be interested. Some papers will run submitted photos, others don't at all (don't expect payment, but that could happen, too). But if you haven't done anything yet, it's already "old" by news standards unless there are continuing stories about arson or someone was injured.

Some cities have restrictions on who can be at a fire scene. You could've gotten out and shot from public spaces as long as you stayed out of the way, but these aren't bad for pics snapped in traffic. Some cities even require fire training for media members who cover fires ... most passersby aren't welcome and aren't that helpful (not that media members are helpful, either, but they have jobs to do).
