I heard the sirens shortly after my daughter left for school just before 7 this morning; they came too soon after she left, so I was reasonably sure it wasn't her. When I got out on Spring Cypress 2 1/2 hours later to take my son to school and saw flashing lights still on the scene, I knew it couldn't be good. It wasn't.

Since we have a brand-new driver in the house, and I have a nephew and a friend's son who also recently got their licenses, I dropped my son off and went back to the house to get the camera. I did a couple of "drive-by's" and snapped a couple of pictures of the scene. While the photos aren't all that great technically, I hope they make an impression and show the kids exactly what can happen given a little speed and/or inattention.

I've looked on various news sites and haven't been able to find any details about the accident. It was raining pretty hard just before my daughter left for school, so I'm guessing that was a contributing factor.

I'm guessing it was a fatality accident, judging by the cover over the driver's seat. On the wrecks I used to cover for a smalltown daily newspaper, the paramedics always used a white sheet. Never really got used to seeing them.

That's what I'm thinking too. Kind of brings home how fragile life is...

The shoe/foot sticking out from under the cover leads me to agree.

Light poles really intrude deeply into a vehicle when they hit the soft passenger compartments.

Tragic indeed. Prayers for the friends and family affected.

I completely missed that. This was well after the victim or victims had been removed, so it must just be a shoe.

Sometimes bodies aren't removed for hours after a wreck, sometimes for investigative purposes but proper procedure can take time. Even when it's obvious, death has to be certified by a coroner/some official or in rural areas often a Justice of the Peace. Unless there is a way to safely transport and store a body (like with a coroner's department), a funeral home must be contacted to come get it.

I drove by the scene of a fatal motorcycle wreck that had happened three hours before. The man's body was still in the road, sort of covered by a sheet. I'd passed the wrecked motorcycle on the back of a flatbed truck a few minutes earlier, so even the vehicles were removed before he was.
