Brownwood Rattlesnake Roundup - 03-21-2010, 01:22 AM

I covered the Brownwood Rattlesnake Roundup for the Abilene Reporter-News on Saturday.

A rookie tried to take on the world record for snakes in a sleeping bag, and came up seven short.

I'd need a much longer lens to cover that event ... not gonna do it!

Good shot, even if it does make my skin crawl.

First of all, not a world record I'd go for. But to short by 7 - I'm sorry, if it were me I'd tell someone to get those snakes in there and be done with it. If there is a bunch already, what is 7 more? Do it and un-ass the sleeping bag and get the record.

I might also add that if it were me in there, the snakes that bit me would be intoxicated from my blood-alcohol level before they could pump out venom. I'd never be sober in there.

Andy- I asked Kat (the lady loading the snakes) that very thing. I said, "Wait, you work FOR the guy who has the world record. So, is there any incentive to go slower just to help your boss hold on to the record?" Both she and Willie (the guy in the bag) said it wasn't like that, so I guess I have to take them at their word!
