Old Glory flying high in South Fort Worth today . . . all the Texas flags are set on lower poles (even though they could be flown at the same height).

Actually in this instance they are flown correctly. According to the Federal Flag Code "When the national flag and a number of state flags are grouped and displayed from staffs, the flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group".

The Texas flag that "can" be flown at the same height as the american flag. You don't see it a whole lot out of respect I would think. But seems I remember reading this about the Texas flag many years ago. Does that still stand true I wonder?

The Texas state flag can be flown at the same height as the American flag. It is the only flag that has this privelege. I believe it was one of the negotiated terms when the U.S. asked Texas to join the union.

Actually, that is incorrect... not the part about the same height, but about the idea that only Texas can do it. Any state can fly their flag at the same height on separate flag poles... if there are a number of flags, then the code section above comes into play..

Pretty good summary at snopes:

snopes.com: Texas Flag Flies at the Same Height as the U.S. Flag?

that's not quite what I learned.... I thought they begged to be in the union because they were flat broke....
