Fort Worth Shooting and Hostage - 11-29-2005, 11:34 PM

What a day! I happened to be out when this all started and was able to get some images of the situation. Unfortunately I wasn't in my normal vehicle so I didn't have my tripod or monopod. These are all handheld. The blur is a likely result of standing outside and shivering for 4 hours in a t-shirt!

I don't envy the job of the police. My thoughts and prayers tonight are with Officer Nava and his family.

They had 2 staff photographers out, although I like the shots 3 or 4. It looks like one of the photographers was by you and REALLY cropped just to get the suspect.

Does not look good for the officer.

This hits home even more now since my son became a police officer. Missed this till the 6:00 news. The officer and family are definately in my thoughts and prayers.

On your photos, I don't see the blur. They look good to me.

Yeah, the Star-Tele guys were right behind me.... Saw some of their shots on their web site. If I only had the budget of the paper.... Talk about chunks of glass! Now if the whole deal would have ended about an hour or so earlier I would have been the only still shooter around. At least I didn't see any others.

That cat is from Texarkana and I have had some dealings with his sisterand brother in-law. His brother in-law stole a box blade from my tractor about a year and a half-ago. I was stupid enough to allow him to leave the property without paying for the box blade. He never returned with the cash. I hope he gets the chair for shooting that cop. And I hope the cops finally catch up with his brother in-law and my box blade. One of my friends is a reporter for the local CBS affiliate and she had an interview with his mother last nite. His mom says he is a serious meth addict

Officer Nava is on life support and is fading fast. He will soon be gone if the reports are accurate.

They were reporting here at 6pm that he had died... the Ft Worth Police Chief confirmed in a tearful announcement.

Nice shots Pete. Which lens were you using?

I was using the 70-200VR with the 1.7 tele. All shots were handheld because I was in my truck when this happened instead of my car where I keep my extra gear including tripod and monopod. After 3+ hours in the cold I was happy they came out as well as they did.

Every time I see these photos in my files I think about that day. I don't envy the job that police have. It was very strange watching this tragedy unfold.
