The actual dedication/groundbreaking ceremony is by invitation only-something like 3000 guests. There is a large group of tents on the site while the whole perimiter of the property has a 9 ft fence with no see fabric on it-can kind of see through it but very dim- so no way to actually see the groundbreaking unless you have an invitation in hand. As to the protestors they have a rather large area on the SE corner of Ownby Stadium that is behind a fence but visible from Mockingbird Ave and Airline Roads. Stopped by this afternoon and talked to a couple of the people there- A group from Indiana has a display of army boots that symbolizes the dead in the Iraq War from Indiana and the troops who also have returned but committed suicide. They were going to take the boots in for the night because of possible rain but plan to have them back out tommorrow, a group was starting to put up hundreds of small white crosses when I had to leave. Also one of their signs was ripped down by a lady when they were having a press conference and there were police present-people not sure if they will prosecute the lady whose ID they know from her car. Since this is on SMU's campus property SMU has had their officers coming by-one was actually there when I was there and he was very nice.
So hope to put up some shots from tommorrows actions later. |
