Bush Library Ceremony at SMU on 11-16-10 - 11-11-2010, 04:47 PM

Looks to be a lot of photo ops this weekend through Wed what with protestors and the formal groundbreaking for the Presidential library at SMU.

VIDEO: George W. Bush Presidential Library : SMU Daily Mustang
Could not find anything other than the SMU link for the actual ceremony information.

Don't know of who from Washington will attend but Bill and Hillary attended the Senior Bush's opening of his libaray but not the dedication.

Thanks for letting us know. I always find doing protests interesting. Wish my new camera equipment would be in for this one :)

The actual dedication/groundbreaking ceremony is by invitation only-something like 3000 guests. There is a large group of tents on the site while the whole perimiter of the property has a 9 ft fence with no see fabric on it-can kind of see through it but very dim- so no way to actually see the groundbreaking unless you have an invitation in hand. As to the protestors they have a rather large area on the SE corner of Ownby Stadium that is behind a fence but visible from Mockingbird Ave and Airline Roads. Stopped by this afternoon and talked to a couple of the people there- A group from Indiana has a display of army boots that symbolizes the dead in the Iraq War from Indiana and the troops who also have returned but committed suicide. They were going to take the boots in for the night because of possible rain but plan to have them back out tommorrow, a group was starting to put up hundreds of small white crosses when I had to leave. Also one of their signs was ripped down by a lady when they were having a press conference and there were police present-people not sure if they will prosecute the lady whose ID they know from her car. Since this is on SMU's campus property SMU has had their officers coming by-one was actually there when I was there and he was very nice.

So hope to put up some shots from tommorrows actions later.

Protest at the Ceremony for the George W Bush Presidential Library on the SMU campus Photo Gallery by pgkps at pbase.com
pics are loading slow today but some of the later ones are interesting with the Dallas Sherriff Riot Squad in full gear!

Police were out in major force at the event.

BTW this is the first time that I was told by a cop that I couldn't take a shot from a public sidewalk-that I had to keep moving! I was on a bridge over Central on a 10+ ft wide sidewalk between the main lanes and the quick turn lane on the old Yale Blvd crossover- kind of ticked me off!

Ya normally I never have problems with the police at events like that. Really most of the time they are rather nice.

I've never had problem with the cops before either but today some of em had their panties in a wad real bad. Heck I even had one plainclothes one come up and joke with me for a few minutes early in the morning.

I was only carrying one camera body today also instead of two-just didn't feal like dragging a second body with me.

Also the white masked folks kind of threw some of them off their game even though they were pretty much silent and I bet their avg age was in the 50's.
