Bullard assists on wildfire - 01-01-2006, 12:06 AM

Just after Noon on Thursday, Dec. 29th, Bullard VFD was called out to assist Lake Palestine East VFD on a wildfire on FM 855 near Lake Palestine. It consumed around 50 acres and a 200 year old house.

This was the first time I got to play with the new 1DsMII.

Fire approaches 200yo house.

Bullard Tanker 2 wets the grass between the fire and the road to slow it and keep it from jumping the road.

Despite efforts to save the old house, it catches fire anyway. North Cherokee Co VFD brush truck fights the grass fire.

As a Bullard firefighter puts water on the fire, TV cameras hound him.

Great shots of the firefighters doing their jobs without getting in their way like the TV people looked like they were doing... grrrrrr.

That was one of the rare times I get to do nothing but take photos. We got word tonight that the fire danger in Smith Co (and surrounding) will be far worse tomorrow. So since most everyone else will prob be busy at their paying jobs tomorrow I may have to put the camera down and pick up a nozzle or work the tanker if a fire occurs.

It was funny watching those TV cameramen about tripping over themselves trying to get the shot. So I had to get a shot of them.
