Burials in fog - 01-06-2012, 09:38 PM

Critique: NC:

TDCJ Captain Joe Byrd (Peckerwood Hill) Cemetery in fog. Huntsville, Texas, December 29, 2011.

A prisoner preparing caskets for disposal.

Group of inmates burying deceased prisoners.

Cemetery fence.

A tomb of an executed prisoner #783 Justin Lee May (to the left).
Although old tombs have only TDCJ numbers, names and other information including Last Statement and Final Meal Request could be found online at tdcj.state.tx.us.

Recent tombs showing names of prisoners.

Nice!

IMHO the last 2 would be killer (bad pun) with the contrast bumped way up.

Eerie and cool photos.

An unfortunate cemetery for unfortunate people who lead them down an unhappy path in life.

Interesting images, but the second one is s-o w-i-d-e that my iPad shrinks everything else on the page; I cannot see the microscopic text. Perhaps folks with huge monitors can see it better. To be clear, I do like what I can see of the images.

Edited to add: OK, I figured out how to enlarge it, though I can only see a small part of anything at one time. Eerie, and interesting, good stuff!

One of the more unusual locales I've seen in awhile. You've done this place great justice.

Very interesting shots. The last two really seem to capture the somber mood.

This is a very nice series of photos. I love how the fog matches the somberness of the situation.

Great pics and a very uncommon location, but you captured it well -- the last shot is awesome. I wonder what the first one would look like in B&W?

A very interesting and poignant series of shots.

Question regarding the second shot (maybe a dumb one, but here goes anyway): Are they burying a prisoner in this shot? The reason I ask is that it appears the lid is laying off to the right of the casket. I've been to open casket funerals, but an open casket burial would be a bit unusual I would think.

I just looked again and saw the caption at the top saying they are indeed burying a prisoner. My second question about the lid still stands...
