EDIT - No problem Abel - Thanks for being so cool about it =)
He came on the 4th of July, at 9 AM, to protest BP for price gouging, safety practices , hiring practices in the refineries regarding African Americans, and the number of BP gas stations franchised by African Americans.
*EDIT* - Removed my little rant, haha, I figured I shouldn't, but politics got the best of me! If anything else offends anyone or someone feels its out of line, just reply or message me, I don't want to disrupt the forums.
So I woke up at 830, and headed out to the main refinery gate, which is right in front of my dads office building, so you know I couldn't miss this.
I sat around and waited...and waited...and waited. Until about 1015, when Mr Jackson decided to show.
- Heres the initial Press circle that engulfed him
And the next 15 to 20 minutes were filled with "fans" (is that what youd call them? no...supporters, there we go) greeting him.
More greeting - Ready for your close up Jesse?
Finally After a while, the press conference started...and having a 20d with all my accesories around my neck, and my film rebel too, people just assumed I was working, so I got right up front with the press.
After about 30 minutes of speaking, the march began...
...Jesse looking as serious as ever.
Making a point, I assume.
Jesse and his most fevered supporter. (That man yelled the whole time.)
P.S. - My car is in this picture! Haha, I just noticed it! LANCER!
Pretty soon after this picture was taken, the sky opened up, and as soon as the rain came, most of the people with nice equipment scattered, or went and got an umbrella, but after two or three minutes, and increased rain, the whole protest ended, and the 4th went on as it should.
Just for laughs, I'll show you this one too. I took a picture of this lady, because she looked rather into it, and getting them on the comp, I saw this in the background...
All in all, it was a ton of fun. I never imagined photojournalism could be such a blast, there was just so much energy around, and all the other media people were so nice.(especially the photographer who talked to me for a few minutes about photography school before the rain came, whoever you are, and whoever you work for, you're awesome!) So yeah, there you go.
