Dixie Chicks in Texas 12-4/5 + Protestors? - 11-10-2006, 01:05 PM

The Dixie Chicks hit Texas:
December 4th Frank Erwin Center Austin, TX
December 5th American Airlines Center Dallas, TX

With their movie hitting theatres soon and the big stink that has brewed up over their comments in London there just may be some activities around the Arenas those nights.

Dallas could be very interesting since it was their home and where they started.

Has anyone one heard anything on area radio shows about how they are being accepted/hated/etc and if anyone plans to protest at the shows?

Anybody in Austin going to see if there are protestors at this show?
Anybody in Dallas going to check it out Tuesday in Dallas? Their last show here was the one where someone threatened to kill one of them when they played Dallas and now that the documentary it out I wonder if there will be anti-Dixie Chick people out there?

Concert is scheduled for 7:30 start so need to be out there early (5:30 ish) to catch people coming in for the show.
I plan to go, well to the outside of the AA Arena to see if any protestors show up.
Nothing in the Austin Paper overnite if they had any there and nothing on line that I could find. At least I won't have to stay too late if they do or don't show up.
BTW an interesting B+W portrait style photo of them on Columbia Records site, not really sure how they lit/reflected it since some of them have more light on them than the others.

Had no idea they were coming.

Seems like they tried to sneak in under the radar to me...wonder if that was for a reason...

Concert was actually scheduled for Sept and had to be moved to this date which is the last day of the tour! I think either one of them was sick or something came up.

Have not heard anything through the grapevine if there will be protestors there or not tonight, saw many floor tickets for sale by brokers and Ticketmaster has tickets still.

Since this is the last show of the tour maybe just maybe they may get political!

I think your second part is the reason - terrible ticket sales led them to postpone/ move parts of the tour - least that's what I remember reading a few months ago.

That is why I believe that there will be some anti-dixie chick protestors out at the arena tonight, the negative thing still hanging over them 3+ years after the London Comments.
Weather has warmed up to almost 60 so that also would not be a no factor.

Guess I will find out soon.

Still no word on Austin and if anything happened down there.

Austin: That big blue dot in the middle of Texas (looking at the 'popular' red/blue maps)? Wouldn't expect much there since most of the people likely to protest probably agreed with them.

The reason it is still hanging around is their reaction to the reaction. They couldn't stand the fact that free speech is a two way street and added insult to injury with their later comments.

I wouldn't expect a huge turnout for a protest. I would guess most people have simply 'moved on' now and have better things to do with their time than protest a band they no longer care about. Then again, Jane Fonda seems to still attract a few so who knows.

News last night in Austin (KVUE) did not mention any protesters. Radio call-in this morning, said, yes, they sounded good, but it was like they were forced to play, with absolutely NO audience interaction or acknowledgment. Pity, really. I don't agree with EVER denigrating the US Prez, past or present, but thought they made good music before the brew-ha.
