Actually Cool Beans is still there, United Equities can't do anything to that building Cool Beans owns it. HOWEVER, they now own the anex next door to the main building. It still stands though.
Chopsticks and the old Uncommon Grounds is torn down. Uncommon Grounds used to be The Argo. A great music venue. It was sadder to see that building go for me than Chopsticks.
I am working with the Save Fry Street organization. We are NOT happy with what is going on. Read the article in today’s DRC
http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedconten...7.3382dc9.html but just note that they misrepresented us about midway through the article. United Equities told City Council we supported what they wanted to do, but that is far from the truth.
We want to see the historic buildings preserved. Ideally we would like it to just stay how it is, but the truth of the matter is the developer owns it and is going to do something with it. We just hope we can persuade him to keep the historic buildings in tact.
Just a little info about the historic buildings that remain, Java Flakes has an actual lease that runs through June 2007. So until then they can’t touch the buildings unless he buys him out or something like that. He also does not own the Campus Barber or main Cool Beans building so he is going to have to build around them.
I was out at the Chopsticks demolition protest and took some photos. I have them on my Flickr account
