Question National Strike at Goodyear - 12-17-2006, 12:37 AM

http://money.iwon.com/jsp/nw/nwdt_rt...8m2alro1&.html
Article says that there are picketers at retail Goodyear Stores across the country and that they plan to close the Tyler Plant, has anybody seen anything about this across the state or in Tyler? I know there are Goodyear tire stores across the state (used to be one just a couple miles from my house and I know of one that is near my Dad's) but to our folks in Tyler is there a picket line outside the plant there?

I wonder if it would be worth the short drive out to Tyler from Dallas to see what is going on outside the plant. I guess I can check the local store locations while out and about today.

For you folks elsewhere in the state have you noticed anything in your towns? To be honest I did not know that there was a strike until I saw this article.

Well I didn't make it out to the Tyler plant Sunday because of health problems and today it was rainy. Might try again tomorrow. What they showed on local news tonight was only about a dozen stikers carrying the standard printed up UAW Strike signs.

Dan no need to go out of your way, I just posted the information because I have seen NOTHING about this in the DFW press and it will effect quite a few jobs in the North Texas area.
Hope things get better for you, we didn't get any rain here in Dallas just partly cloudy skies.

I remember hearing about this a month or so ago when the plant closing was announced. It might have been news on the Yahoo homepage, not sure. Anyway, the plant closing hasn't been a secret. I think Tyler is just far enough out of the metroplex that it's not a big issue in the Dallas media.

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by,
and then it petered out and I had to retrace my steps and wasted half a day.

Stephen the thing is that there retail/repair stores with the Goodyear name-not sure if corporate or franchisee- and it looks like no strike picket lines are up.

I believe that plant in Tyler dates back to the 1920's or before.

The Tyler plant used to be Kelly Springfield but was bought out by Goodyear a few years back.

I was glad to hear that. Over 1000 workers won't be out of a job for Christmas and they will have a whole year to gain new employment.
