An annual event- Tubachristmas- bunch of people playing tubas, sousaphones, baritones and whatnot in Thanksgiving Square, in Dallas- Friday, December22 , concert starts at noon; rehearsals are earlier.

This is a national event. Look up other city locations at www.tubachristmas.com.

The tuba players themselves have some visual interest, and then it's a good place just to photograph happy crowds in colorful clothes.

As best I can tell, DART is the best way to get there.

Photos attached from last year to give you an idea of what it's like.

Man I have been wanting to shoot this for several years and always hear about it on the news AFTER it happened. Yeah DART or park in Deep Ellum (free meteres during the day still on weekdays) and walk in the 3/4 mile or so to TGS. Guess I need to be there early.

THANKS!
Went by TGS today and they had a flyer posted that said that they expect 175 tubas Friday!
Also at NOON The Bells peal for a couple minutes and the sound bounces all over the place.

My daughter was playing in it, which is why I knew about it, so I was there at 8:40 or so. It was pretty chilly, especially since I just took my sweatshirt, but we did okay. I'll have some photos this afternoon, and others in a few days. I didn't shoot as many as last time, as I was trying to stay more in one place.

Well didn't get there until around 11:20 but was all over the place shooting-I had on a black fedora and a tan photo vest.

Will be loading them up on my Pbase account in a few minutes.

lol, it's funny to see this since I used to play in this when I was in High School. I played Baritone. I only went because my private instructor headed the baritones for "practice" for the event and asked us all to participate.

Hey, went over and looked through your shots last night- That's me on the balcony, to the left in blue, in 8K3Z5172, 8K3Z5174, and on the bridge near the left end in 8K3Z5175. In 8K3Z5183, you can see I have my cap turned backwards- bill gets in the way of the viewfinder otherwise. I'm in the blue at the right end of 8K3Z5238. And in some other shots similar to the above.

In 8K3Z5192, there is a white tuba near the top right. The silver tuba just to the right of it is my daughter's.
