Protest in Dallas on Wednesday Dec 27 - 12-26-2006, 11:46 AM

The church that protests funerals of fallen GI's will be protesting the memorial service of the Dallas mountain climber who died on Mt. Hood. The protest will be at 11am and the Dallas Fellowship Bible church off of 75 and Park Lane. My contacts at Dallas Police said they will be out there in full force. Below is a link to the press release that I got over the weekend.

I need to take my dad to the Doc that day (tomorrow) I will have to wait until the last minute to see if I can go.

This looks like a powder keg so I will be there!
Wouldn't 10 am be a good time to get there, take something along in the car to read while waiting but you don't want to get there too late and miss all the fun!

For those not familiar with the area here is a map from the Church's webpage
http://www.fellowshipdallas.org/location_times.htm
This is just north of North Park Mall on the opposite side over by greenville ave.

I will be out there. A counter protest group should be out there so things could get crazy.

My contacts tell me that the church and the shopping center is all private property so they are going to put the protesters along Park Lane and US 75. I will keep people updated as I get more info.

Yeah it is all private property so the shots will be as the people arrive for the funeral in their cars. Guess the best place to park would be in the Best Buy parking lot or the bed bath and beyond or over at the old Oshmans parking lot and then walking over the the area.

If you look at the map there are multiple entrances to the parking lot so I would bet that the people will be entering at all the entries. Now the one thing that could be interesting is if anyone rides DART in and walks in for the service and that would put them on Twin Hills walking in from the south and east.

Wind is supposed to pick up as the day progresses and the temps go to the high 60's!

Did they convert the old Movie Theatres that were back there into this church?

The church purchased the old theatre property about 2 years ago and have converted it into a church. Also of churches and other places of worship are starting to do that. I have 6 clients at the security company I work for that has done that.

Here is a link on how they did it.

Abel and board admins:

Since the link to the press release was taken down becuase of the server it was sitting on looked like it upsetted some how do you want us to handle the the pictures we will take of the event? Some of the protest posters and signs this group has can upset some and make others laugh. I know the AP and other wire services will print them and Dallas Police wont bust them for obscene posters under Texas law or City of Dallas code but how do you want us to handle it? Post them here or in the Human Form section?

Thanks!

Ok, I'm going to show my stupidity and ask a simple question. Why are they protesting at the memorial for a mountain climber?

I guess not many came down from Kansas and they couldn't rally the people down here.

David, any reason for the cancellation? And I want to thank you for all of the info. I have been out of town but came back early and I was just about to head over to the church to shoot this. So you saved me a long drive. Thanks, David.
