I can't make it but some of you might want to try and shoot it.

On Friday, Feb. 2, at noon plans are being made to leave Stephenville on a journey to Colorado carrying a goal of 7,000 bales of hay to six devastated counties in the South East part of Colorado.

Seven thousand bales of hay on the truck, seven thousand bales of hay! If one of those baes should happen to fall, six thousand nine hundred bales of hay on the truck...

Lol...

I just spoke to the guy in charge of this whole deal. He said that he's taking one part of the convoy to Memphis to pick up several truckloads of hay (so I'm assuming he's going through the metroplex)

The other convoy is heading down I-20 to Hwy. 84 out in west TX.

I was hoping that he'd come up Hwy. 281 to Wichita Falls...but no dice.

Well... it's time to get back in the game.

Wouldn't it be cheaper for them to load the hay onto railroad flat cars in Stephenville and send them via Fort Worth & Western RR to Fort Worth and them BNSF railroad to Colorado? Then all you have to do is arrange transportation from the unloading sites in Colorado.

Daniel, Get thee a calculator. 7000 - 1 does not equal 6900.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

A lot of things would be cheaper to ship by railroad if it was convenient, but it seldom is. By the time you figure trucks and loading/unloading equipment at each end, needing a siding at each end, and freight charges that aren't that much less than trucking, erratic scheduling, etc., it just doesn't often work out for one-shot loads.

---------------------------
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by,
and then it petered out and I had to retrace my steps and wasted half a day.
