C&C please - Mardi Gras Parade

Just a little parade put on by one of the local bars for Mardi Gras. C&C always welcome and requested.

Any good tips on shooting parades? Do you prefer wide angle, telephoto, or a combination? Head-on, from the side, from the crowd, elevated position...? Many thanks!

From a PJ stand point, mind you I am NOT one, but the 2nd one would be more newsworthy then the 1st. Both are good shots, but I would like #2. It shows the activities of Mardi Gras with the beeds. While the 1st one is nice too, the reaction on her face is kinda cheesy.

To cover a parade from the news angle...you have to shoot from all the spots and lenses you just mentioned.

Otherwise...they all look the same. Variety is what is needed for the newspaper. I like the second one too.

I guess it depends on the parade- the local parades around here (Labor Day, etc) tend to be fairly uninteresting in themselves, and there's about as much photo op in the spectaters as in the parade.

Thanks for the ideas guys, and I hear you, Stephen. The rule of thumb around here is the parade is usually going to last as long as you have to wait past when it's supposed to start. We call it, "Bandera time." I'm sure we're not alone in Texas. ;)

The second one is better for PJ. If you put someones picture in the paper, try not to embarass them if possible. The editor will usually eliminate "silly" shots, etc. unless they are germain to the story, etc.
