Everyone,

Thanks so much for the kind words. When I first started discussing this assignment with the corporate office of the living center months ago, I was both excited and apprehensive. Having had a family member with Alzheimer's, I had some idea of what lay ahead of me.

I understand that some of these images are painful, more so to some than others, and I completely respect those feelings. My assignment was to obtain images the company could use for marketing, and I have dozens of those--they seemed more than satisfied with the results. The few I selected for this gallery (I hope to add a few more when I can get caught up with all of my other admin) are, in my opinion, representative of the day as I saw it, with the range of emotions shown here as best I could capture them.

It was a wonderful day and a half for me, and I can't say enough about the facility. The love and care they showed these residents helped to preserve their dignity. If my family ever needs a service like this again in the future, they will be the first people we call.

incredible. my grandma was in a nursing home for a short time, suffering from some memory lapse and it was the HARDEST time of my life walking in there seeing her that way. We figured out it was medication causing her problems and she's now at home, but those images really capture the range of emotions. FANTASTIC job.

Tom - again, I can only add more compliments.

I looked at your new pix after coming home from visiting my mother in a long term care facility. Like others wrote above, it is heart breaking to see a once vibrant, intelligent, and strong person degenerate.

Some images in particular struck me - the ones with pets. My mother was never much of a pet person, and in particular, disliked cats. Awhile back, my wife bought Mom a small toy cat for her - and Mom fell in love with her "doggie."

Each week, I write an email titled "The Mommy Report" to my siblings, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and others, about the state of her condition. It breaks my heart to see her talking to a toy, but the disease is cruel.

Thanx for sharing your work, Tom.

Doug,

Thanks for the pic of your mom--She (and her family) will be remembered in my prayers.
